Sometimes growth means leaving.

And sometimes, leaving proves the model works exactly as intended.

In October 2023, C & A Financial Services joined SHIFT Work + Play with a clear goal: to establish a strong, visible presence in Frederick.

Their firm was already established. The expertise was there. But founders Chris Emtcheu and Tony Ngoupou were ready to intentionally root their business in this community.

They didn’t dip a toe in. They joined with two private offices from day one.

They hosted their Frederick ribbon cutting here at SHIFT. They met with clients here. They built local relationships here. And over the next two years, they did exactly what they set out to do: become a known and trusted financial services firm in Frederick.

In January 2024, we featured Tony in a member spotlight, sharing more about their vision and the intentionality behind their growth. Even then, it was clear they were building with long-term strategy in mind.

At the end of October 2025 — exactly two years after joining — C&A concluded their private office memberships. They had signed a commercial lease in the same building with our shared landlord and were preparing to move into their own dedicated office suite just a few doors down.

As they prepared for this next chapter, C&A also made a strategic brand shift — evolving from C & A Financial Services to C&A Financial Services & Business Consulting.

The name change reflects the broader scope of work they’ve grown into — expanding beyond traditional financial services to include deeper business consulting support for their clients. The move and the rebrand happened in tandem, signaling not just a new address, but a refined identity and expanded vision.

Renovations, as they often do, took longer than anticipated.

When it became clear they wouldn’t be in their new space by the start of the year, they did something that perfectly illustrates why flexible workspace matters: they came back.

C&A reactivated with a part-time membership while construction wrapped up. That allowed them to continue hosting client meetings in our conference room and even use the playroom occasionally for Chris’ daughter — maintaining continuity for both business and family while their permanent space was being finalized.

And now, this month, they’ve officially moved into their new suite and are preparing for another ribbon cutting — this time in a space designed entirely around their needs.

That’s not a goodbye rooted in departure.

That’s a full-circle moment.

SHIFT isn’t just a place for startups. It’s a strategic home base for businesses entering a new market. A professional launchpad. A low-risk way to establish credibility, visibility, and relationships before committing to a long-term commercial lease.

C&A used SHIFT exactly that way.

They moved their base to Frederick.
They built their local presence.
They grew into their next phase.

And when the timing got complicated (as timing often does), the flexibility of this model supported them through the transition.
